There is much pleasure in creating theatre - never more so than when bolstered, supported, encouraged and enriched by a company of like-minded people.
In Company Theatre is dedicated to building and maintaining such a company. And it is more than an acting company: we wish to nurture not only a wide pool of creatives, but also a network of skilled administrators, fundraisers, advisors and the like. We don’t like to pigeon-hole, either. An actor in one production may wish to design a poster for the next; or publicise the one after that. An accountant may have written an epoch-defining play that they’d quite like to stage. Let’s do it!
Inspired by the work of the late ‘Grandmother of American Theatre’, Viola Spolin and her son, Paul Sills, In Company Theatre’s ethos is rooted in their vision of a true and broad sense of company; of a collective focus on the same goal: the process of creating vivid, vital theatre to share with that ‘last spoke in the wheel that can then begin to roll’: the audience.
‘Theatre is an artistic group relationship demanding the talents and energy of many people - from the first thought of a play or scene to the last echo of applause’. - Viola Spolin
